AKTU Pioneers Blockchain for Degree Verification in India
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) is set to become India's first academic institution to leverage blockchain technology for issuing 50,000 digital degrees during its September 9 convocation. The initiative targets engineering and management graduates, aiming to eliminate document fraud while enhancing verification efficiency.
University officials emphasize the tamper-proof nature of the decentralized system, which stores credentials across multiple servers. "Blockchain ensures authentication happens through secure computerized databases," said Vice Chancellor JP Pandey, noting the system's capacity to prevent unauthorized alterations. Students gain on-demand access to printable digital degrees, with records tied to unique identifiers like roll numbers.
The MOVE reflects growing institutional adoption of blockchain solutions in credentialing, addressing widespread concerns about fraudulent academic documents. AKTU's implementation could set a precedent for other Indian universities seeking to modernize record-keeping systems.
